THE family of a young Swanley woman killed crossing a notorious danger road have suffered a setback in their quest to slash the speed limit.

Victoria Woodbridge was on her way back from seeing her boyfriend when she was hit by a car in London Road, next to the junction with Brook Road, on January 30.

The 20-year-old former Hextable School pupil was taken by ambulance to King's College Hospital with serious head and pelvic injuries and died the following day.

Her uncle Robert Woodbridge has been fighting to reduce the limit from 40mph to 30mph between the junctions with Birchwood Road and Hilda May Avenue for the past 10 years.

During that period there have been 117 accidents along that stretch, of which three were fatal and six serious.

He spoke at a Swanley Town Council meeting on Wednesday (April 24) to try to gain the backing of members.

But it emerged the Labour Party had been using it to drive their campaign for the Kent County Council elections on May 2, therefore it was illegal for members to discuss it until the election has taken place.

Mr Woodbridge told News Shopper: “I’ve spoken to Jeff, Vicki’s dad, and he’s disappointed, and so am I.

“The Labour Party have tried to jump on the bandwagon and this has caused this motion not to go forward.

“Vicki died at the end of January and it’s now the end of April, so time is getting on. We won’t give up though.”
