A YOUNG couple are to face trial over the fatal shooting of father-of-three Kevin McKinley in Dartford after denying the charges brought against them.
Michaela Sargeant, 24 and Lewis Wickenden, 25, of Overy Street, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court yesterday (April 26) afternoon.
Sargeant pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder and manslaughter of 32-year-old Mr McKinley, who was found suffering from a gunshot wound in Overy Street on February 12.
Her partner Wickenden pleaded not guilty to charges of assisting an offender and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
The couple will now face a trial by jury at Maidstone Crown Court, due to start on Tuesday, August 6.
When emergency services arrived at the scene of the shooting, Mr McKinley, of Louvain Road, Stone, had gone into cardiac arrest.
He was treated by ambulance staff at the scene before being taken to Darent Valley Hospital where he died of his injuries.
A post-mortem examination later ruled the cause of death was shock caused by abdominal haemorrhage after a gunshot wound to the left hip and buttock area.
