A NEWSAGENTS' bid to sell booze 15 hours a day has been rejected by Bexley Council.

Hari Newsagents in Midhurst Hill, Bexleyheath, applied for an alcohol licence between 6am and 9pm every day.

But the council’s licensing committee turned it down during a meeting on Tuesday. (April 23)

Members discovered the applicant, Gengarathy Devadasan, wasn’t the business’s owner and were concerned she did not have the authority to meet the council’s licensing criteria.

Met Police had raised concerns as the previous owners of the shop were caught selling booze to children and had their licence revoked by Bexley Council in September 2008.
