YOUNGSTERS from a special needs organisation went to great lengths to raise money for it - by doing a sponsored swim.

Three children from the Ravensbourne Project - Becky Simpson, 15, and 17-year-old twins Stephen and Dominic Kilty - helped raise a whopping £1,652 at Ladywell Leisure Centre.

That money will now go towards new computer equipment and trip away for children who use the service.

The project, in Crantock Road, Catford,  provides services, information and support to anyone who has caring responsibilities for children and young people with a disability or special needs.

Daycare worker Julie Robertson, who personally swam 3km to help raise the cash, said there would be more fundraising to come.

She said: "It's much more fun for the children when they raise the money themselves to be able to spend it.

"It also gives them a bit more independence."
