BEXLEY police have this morning raided a Welling cannabis factory built “like Fort Knox”, according to a witness.

Officers are still present at the Upper Wickham Lane address after moving in at around 10am this morning.

An employee of a nearby business who did not wish to be named, told News Shopper: “They are still trying to break in now, it’s like Fort Knox.

“They managed to get through the first layer of defence but the second is like Belmarsh.

“There are iron bars and big padlocks on it.”

“We saw about half a ton of cannabis on the driveway out the back.”

The employee joked: “Some of the locals have been making off with bags of it.”

A far as he knew the site was a warehouse used by local builders, he added, but apparently it would only be visited after 10pm at night.

The man said: “We have smelled pot before but we assumed it might have been people from the flat above.

“I prefer a pint of lager myself.”

A police spokeswoman confirmed a raid began at 10.06am and is still in progress.
