GRAVESHAM Council leader John Burden is running for election in Dartford.

The Istead Rise resident is bidding to represent Dartford West in the upcoming Kent County Council elections.

Cllr Burden told News Shopper: “Some people don’t like a Gravesham borough councillor standing in Dartford, it’s not unusual.

“It’s basically how people can best represent at county level that needs to be considered.

“In truth, I’m at County Hall very regularly as part of my role as leader.

“It wouldn’t create any additional problems."

Last time round Labour finished third in Dartford West, behind the English Democrats and the Conservatives.

Polling takes place from 7am to 10pm on Thursday , May 2.

Cllr Burden said: “In Gravesham there are already excellent Labour candidates and I was invited by the Dartford Labour Group to stand for Dartford West.

“It’s up to the electorate to decide.”
