THREE people were taken to hospital after a fire in a block of flats in Gravesend this morning (April 21).

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus battled the blaze for around five hours after being called to the scene in Harmer Street at around 12.45am.

They used a ladder to rescue one man from the four storey building and the other residents got themselves out of the property.

The rescued man was suffering from smoke inhalation and he was taken to hospital along with two other people, one believed to be suffering from burns and the other suffering from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

This is the same street where firefighters were called to Kent Hair Studio twice in four days last month after two suspected arson attacks.

A 20-year-old man from the Gravesend area was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life last month in connection with the attacks before being bailed.

At this stage it is not yet known whether this morning’s fire is connected with the fires last month.
