PUPPY Police Academy was launched yesterday (April 18) to reveal the canine exploits of dogs working for the Met.

The new video and picture diary reveals the lives of a group of German shepherds as they are put through their paces at the training establishment in Layhams Road, Keston.

They are trained to locate suspects, missing persons and property, firearms recovery and to support officers in crime initiatives and incidents of public disorder.

However, as the series will show, not all puppies are cut out to become working police dogs. Some have clearly bitten off more than they can chew are destined to become beloved family pets.

Inspector Lynette Pearce said: "The Met Police Dog Training Establishment has been based in Keston since 1954 on a site of around 15 acres.

“The world class training facility boasts in excess of 100 purpose-built kennels, providing veterinary support for all dogs.

"I am pleased to allow the cameras in to offer a glimpse of the fantastic and dedicated work of all the highly trained dog handlers."
