LIGHTNING hitting a Greenwich bedroom window is believed to have started a house fire.
Four crews were called out to the blaze in Annandale Road yesterday afternoon (April 18) which damaged part of the property's front.
A spokesman for the Fire Brigade said: "Fire investigators believe a bolt of lightning struck the house, which then caused the fire. Fortunately no one was home so there were no injuries.
"It’s unusual for lightning to cause fires but not unheard of. Our crews are called to a couple of these fires in London every year."
Four fire engines from Greenwich, East Greenwich, Woolwich and Deptford fire stations with 21 firefighters and officers were called to the fire.
Woolwich fire station is set to close under proposals by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
