DETECTIVES investigating the murder of Catford man Jerome Edwards have charged a man with his death.

Clleon Smith, 26, of Hichisson Road in Camberwell, will appear at Bromley Magistrates Court this morning charged with the 23-year-olds murder.

Smith also faces charges of possessing a prohibited firearm and the attempted murder of a 20-year-old man.

The attempted murder charge relates to an incident in Southwell Road on the same date as Mr Edwards’ death.

Mr Edwards was found with gunshot wounds to the head at a flat in Southwell Road in Camberwell at 4.50am on April 14.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended but he died at hospital later that morning.

Shortly after police were called to the scene, a second man turned up at hospital with a gunshot wound to his ankle. He was later discharged.

It is believed he was shot in the street near to the flat.

A 31-year-old man who was also arrested in connection with the investigation has been bailed to return to a south London police station in May pending further enquiries.

There was a party with around 100 guests going on in a first floor flat at the time of the shooting, and police want witnesses to come forward.
