A MAN injured during an assault in New Cross yesterday morning has been arrested by police.

Police were called to the junction of Queens Road and Pomeroy Street yesterday (April 17) at 5.40am to reports of an assault.

There, they found two injured men, both aged in their mid-40s, who were taken to hospital.

One of them remains in hospital in a stable condition. Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.

The other man, who was initially treated for minor injuries, was discharged and has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He is currently in custody at a south London police station.

Following the assault, roads in the surrounding area were cordoned off, causing chaos for drivers and people travelling through New Cross by bus.

Police have stressed that, contrary to online rumours, there was no stabbing, no guns were fired and there was no explosion.
