THE ‘world’s most powerful couple’ is ‘gutted’ after their tile-breaking world record attempt fell short – because they did not put out enough tiles.

Lisa Dennis and Chris Pitman, from Virtue Taekwon-Do, were attempting to smash their way through 1,000 tiles each to set a new Guinness World Record.

Mr Pitman managed 892 in 42.02 seconds and Ms Dennis broke 929 in one minute and 21 seconds.

And they say they were both well within the times to beat, of 54.25 seconds for a man and 90 seconds for a woman, but they did not have enough tiles laid out in the hall at HSBC Sports and Social Club, Lennard Road, Beckenham.

There were enough tiles available but not enough breezeblocks, which the tiles had to rest on for the record breaking attempt.

Mr Pitman, 43, said: “We’re absolutely gutted.

“We had seconds to go and there were no more tiles to break, which is rather frustrating.”

And 39-year-old Ms Dennis said: “I believe we are the world’s most powerful couple.

“It is all about having the self belief to do it.

“I challenge any woman to try it.”

Ms Dennis is the first woman in the world to attempt to try to break a 1,000 roof tiles and is waiting to hear from Guinness World Records to see if they agree she has set a record.

And the couple, from Addiscombe, are planning to next try for the record in the summer live on the television programme The One Show.

Ms Dennis said: “Next time when we do it all the mistakes will be put to one side.”

She is a world champion in the sport and has been doing it for 25 years, and teaching it for 14 years.

The tiles, breezeblocks and bricks for the attempt were supplied by Alltype Roofing and Walkers Builders' Merchants.
