TWO men who destroyed a stolen car in Farnborough by setting fire to it have been sentenced to time in a young offender institution.
Charlie Hurley, aged 21, of Upper Elmers End Road, Beckenham, was found guilty of arson and dangerous driving, and was sentenced to two years and three months.
Husayn Pardhan, aged 18, of St Leonards Rise, Orpington, was found guilty of arson and sentenced to a year.
On April 27 last year officers on patrol in Petts Wood saw a stolen BMW with false number plates travelling along Crofton Lane.
When they attempted to stop the vehicle it made off, travelling along Sevenoaks Road and Tubbenden Lane in Orpington and reaching speeds of up to 80mph.
Officers later found the vehicle on fire in Bassetts Way, Farnborough.
With the help of a police helicopter and dog unit, they tracked the suspects through a wooded area, and arrested them in Broadwater Gardens, Orpington.
Both defendants denied the offences but were found guilty by a jury.
They were sentenced at Croydon Crown Court.
