POLITICIANS are bristling with anger over the proposed closure of Mottingham pub The Porcupine.
Bromley and Chislehurst MP Bob Neil and councillor Charles Rideout met with residents last Saturday (April 13) to discuss concerns about the pub which was recently closed down to be turned into a supermarket.
The current building, in Mottingham Road, dates back to the 1920s but it is thought there has been a Porcupine Inn on the site since 1650.
Mr Neil said: "I am very concerned about loss of this long-established pub.
"There are very few community facilities in Mottingham, so this represents particularly serious blow to local residents, made worse by the prospect of it being replaced by a non-descript supermarket."
Fifty-six-year-old David Bigley, of Mottingham Road, said: "We want to see Bromley Council withhold permission to demolish until a planning application by Lidl (which has not yet been submitted) is considered."
"It is only then that Mottingham residents can formally state their objections."
