AN MP has taken action to help end commercial seal hunting.
Dartford MP Dr Howard Stoate is urging the Government to ban the trade in seal products as part of the campaign to end Canadian commercial seal hunting.
He signed a parliamentary motion on the issue on November 15, and is encouraging fellow MPs to do the same.
Dr Stoate said: "I am appalled by the brutality involved and the fact the UK is still importing products from a hunt which is both cruel and unnecessary.
"A UK ban on the import of harp and hooded seal products would send an important message to Canada the UK wants no part in this hunt.
"I am urging my colleagues to support this new motion."
The Government has stated it is actively looking at the possibility of introducing a UK ban on trade in seal products.
