HMV stores in Bromley and Bluewater are among the 132 stores that have been saved by a £50m deal today.

Restructuring specialist Hilco confirmed this morning it has clinched a deal that will save 2,500 jobs across the country, including the shop in Bromley High Street and at the Greenhithe shopping centre.

Paul McGowan, Hilco chief executive, said: “We have spent a number of weeks negotiating revised terms with landlords and the key suppliers to the business.

"They have been supportive of our plans to maintain an entertainment retailer on the High Street.

“We hope to replicate some of the success we have had in the Canadian market with the HMV Canada business.

"The structural differences in the markets and the higher level of competition in the UK will prove additional challenges for the UK business but we believe it has a successful future ahead of it.”

The new deal is too late to save the HMV stores in Bexleyheath and Orpington, which closed last month.

The HMV group called in administrators from Deloitte in January but hopes of a rescue deal were subsequently raised after Hilco bought the company's debt.

It was originally announced in February that 66 of HMV's 220 shops would close over two months, at the cost of nearly 1,000 jobs.
