HUNDREDS of Sikh’s will parade through Gravesend next week to celebrate Vaisakhi.
The procession on April 13 will move through the town centre, both beginning and ending at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara, off Saddington Street.
Vaisakhi marks the start of the New Year and is a long-established harvest festival in the Punjab and firefighters are taking the opportunity to remind revellers to ensure their celebrations go off safely.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s principal community safety officer Pirthipal Singh Kang said: “Vaisakhi is a time of great celebration and we hope lots of members of Kent’s Sikh community will come down to see us on Saturday.”
“We are especially urging the community to ensure they have a working smoke alarm fitted on every floor of their home and to test batteries weekly.”
