A COMBINED effort from Bexley Council and Transport for London (TfL) has seen bus links to Beths Grammar School improved.
There have previously been concerns the buses serving the school, in Hartford Road, were not accommodating enough pupils at the start and end of the school day.
Following an inspection in December last year by an officer from Bexley Council’s transport planning team, an additional Route 601 bus was introduced on January 28.
The extra bus, which travels between Thamesmead and Wilmington, will run at the beginning and end of school and brings the total number of buses on the 601 route to four.
Last year’s converting of the single-decker Route 132 bus, which runs between Bexleyheath and North Greenwich, into a double-decker has also helped increase capacity.
Bexley Council’s transport planning team leader, Tim Lynch, says a combination of these two improvements will address the problems of overcrowding.
