OFSTED is investigating more than 600 allegedly fraudulent ratings on its Parent View website about an Orpington school.

An Ofsted spokesman confirmed the number of responses about St Olave's and St Saviour's Grammar School, in Goddington Lane, had risen from around 200 to more than 800 within a few weeks in January 2013.

The activity was deemed suspicious by Ofsted's monitoring service as well as being flagged by a concerned parent.

The Parent View website, run by education inspector and regulator Ofsted, enables parents to give feedback on the schools their children attend. There are 12 aspects open for consideration ranging from the quality of teaching, to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour.

An Ofsted spokesperson said: “Ofsted has measures in place to prevent false data being submitted to Parent View.

“We thoroughly investigate all claims of malpractice and if we are satisfied there has been misuse, we remove entries from our site. We have worked closely with St Olave’s to ensure their Parent View entries are accurate.

“We have an ongoing monitoring service so we picked up on the suspicious activity at the same time a parent contacted us about it and we are looking into it.

“There have been three incidents of information being removed from Parent View across all schools since its launch (in October 2011).”

A spokesman for St Olave’s said: “This is an external website over which the school has no control.

“At St Olave’s we undertake regular parent surveys, conducted by a professional, independent company;  these show outstandingly high levels of support for the school.”

The school, which was judged “outstanding” by Ofsted in 2010, attracted controversy last October when it asked the 3rd Orpington Scout Group to vacate its historic headquarters which were on the school grounds.
