A FORMER council leader's return to the Cabinet appears imminent.

Copers Cope councillor Michael Tickner has been nominated as the new local economy portfolio holder after Councillor Colin Bloom stood down last week.

Bromley Council leader Councillor Stephen Carr chose him as he believes he will continue to improve the borough's town centres.

Cllr Tickner said: "I am delighted to be playing my part in building a better borough."

Cllr Tickner was council leader until the 1998 local elections, when a Liberal Democrat and Labour coalition took power. He returned as leader in 2001, when the Conservatives regained control, until May 2003.

The formal appointment will be made at the full council meeting on November 20.
