WITH four commissions, 12 UK premieres, nine London premieres and now 11 days long, this year's Greenwich and Docklands International Festival has become one of Europe’s foremost international arts festivals, bringing London some of the best outdoor performing arts in the world.
The festival’s completely free programme includes outdoor spectacle, fresh and original contemporary theatre, dance in unusual settings, interactive experiences and participatory events.
This year, there’s a thematic focus on Earth and performances will encourage audiences to think about the environment in new ways.
From large scale spectaculars exploring Newtonian gravity and Darwinian evolution, to more intimate work inviting us to think about climate change, ideas of home and different cultural maps of the world, the festival has been devised as a journey of discovery enabling audiences to take in performances across historic maritime Greenwich, the Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf, Stratford and Woolwich.
