THE creativity of people in Bromley is being celebrated this month with a community festival.

Next Monday (July 20) will see a performance by 30 women following drama and movement sessions on the theme of first loves and first dates.

Theatre company Hourglass, and dancer Lucy Pearce, worked with four groups of women to create the performance.

Young women from Girls Friendly Society in Penge which supports groups such as teenage mothers were among those involved in the project alongside older women.

The Churchill’s creative development manager Liam Shea said: “The women have been able to learn about each other’s experiences and work creatively together whilst at the same time expressing themselves and gaining confidence.”

The festival also sees a showcase of regular classes from burlesque and slow motion to drama and dance on Tuesday (July 21).

The finale of the week will see the reading of the winning plays from The Churchill’s Playwriting Competition 2009.

More than 100 entries were received but just four were shortlisted.

The Churchill’s Creative Development Department, runs a programme of regular classes for children and adults, as well as community outreach projects and specially commissioned participatory workshops.
