SUMMER holidays spent building dens, cooking on open fires, catching bugs and fishing are back in Deptford.
Creekside Discovery Centre is holding Wild Wednesdays throughout the summer holidays where families can have some good, clean but muddy fun without leaving the city.
The creek is teeming with crabs, eels, shrimp and fish and has all the waders and kit necessary to bring summer back as it used to be.
Most of the activities are aimed at families with children aged five to 12 and last for two hours from 11am to 1pm and cost £5 per person or £15 for a family of four. Den building and fire making lasts three hours and costs £7, or £20 for a family.
Creekside Discovery Centre trainer Mandie Wraxall said: “Research shows a third of children these days have never built a den and experts say that modern day children are missing out on vital experiences because they do not spend enough time having fun in the open air.
“When they come to the Creekside Discovery Centre, people are always amazed at the rich variety of urban wildlife around us and watching a child catch a crab for the first time is one of the highlights of my job. We’re running different activities each week as we hope families will want to come along more than once.”
