Extreme Dean Allmark is the All Star British Superslam wrestling champion and has been a professional wrestler since 2000.
He teams up with Eddie Shah to take on Rampage Brown and Robbie Dynamite for the tag championship in Gravesend on Friday, May 31
The 29-year-old talks to News Shopper ahead of the clash.
Why are you Extreme Dean?
It’s because of my wrestling style. I do a lot of other stuff that people don’t do, a lot higher risk.
How extreme are you?
I’m probably more extreme than anyone else in the country. I think everybody knows it.
You must have to be pretty tough to be a wrestler...
Yeah you do. I’ve wrestled over 2,000 matches and the toll it takes on your body, a lot of normal people couldn’t take that. You have to be a special breed of person to be a wrestler.
How dangerous is it?
I’ve had probably every injury under the sun. Most of it is bruises, muscle damage, ligament tears. The only bone I’ve broken is my nose, I’ve broken that three times.
The worse one was a grade four ligament tear on my ankle, that was pretty nasty. I was probably off for about eight weeks.
As a wrestler you recover quicker than normal people too.
How much blood have you spilt in the ring over the years?
Probably a gallon. It is normally just from a nose, or you pick up little nicks and you don’t know how you’ve done them.
Because your blood and adrenalin is pumping really fast a little cut to your head can bleed quite a bit. It doesn’t happen often but when it does there’s quite a bit.
How do you stay in shape?
I train every day. I go to the gym for an hour and a half or two hours. Then I do yoga at night time when I’m not wrestling.
The way I train is more conditioning because most of my matches are 20 or 30 minutes long. It’s go-go-go.
What is the appeal of wrestling for families?
There’s always something in there for everybody. We have women wrestlers as well, we have midget wrestlers as well. Just seeing these characters like good versus evil I think that draws everybody in. In Gravesend especially there are lots of families that go there.
All Star Superslam Wrestling returns to The Woodville, Gravesend on Friday, May 31. Ticket prices have been reduced to £10 for under 16s, with a family ticket (two adults and two children) £45. Call 01474 337774 or go to Woodville.co.uk.
