A passionate film maker’s project to learn more about her art has blossomed into a full length wartime drama complete with well-known stars.

Blitz and Bananas, created by Anna Littler from Orpington Video and Film Maker’s Club (OVFM) is ready for its long-awaited premiere on Sunday April 1.

Set in the Second World War, the Bromley-based movie brings to life memories and stories of local people.

It features local actors Brian Murphy of Last of the Summer Wine and Linda Regan from Hi-de-hi and Carry On films.

Anna said: “From original idea to completion it's been two years of full-on action.

"I'm passionate about movies and what started out as a simple challenge to learn more about film making, somehow ended up as a feature length wartime drama.

“Brian Murphy and Linda Regan are genuine stars and it was a pleasure to work with them.

“They were so professional but also great fun too.”

But Anna is quick to point out the film is the result of a team effort.

She added: “I've been bowled over by the way OVFM Club members and the local community have rallied behind the project.

“It seems to have struck a chord.

"People have been so generous with their time and expertise.

“I couldn't have done it without them."

Filmed in Orpington, Bromley, Petts Wood, Bickley and Farnborough, Blitz and Bananas has brought a real taste of Hollywood to the area.

The ambitious big screen drama is about the daring exploits of a group of children in wartime Britain and Anna worked tirelessly to recreate a genuine 1940s feel.

With carefully sourced retro costumes and uniforms, actual wartime items and artefacts, and a number of beautiful vintage motor cars the film is rich with period detail.

Amongst the cast are several budding young actors whose talent, charm and screen presence undoubtedly mark them out for the big time.

"The children have put so much effort into their acting.” Anna said.

“They learnt their lines and followed their directions like real pros.

“I can't praise them enough."

A multitude of local film enthusiasts have seized this golden opportunity to get involved in the movie world.

For many it has been their first chance to learn about film making and see what goes on behind the scenes.

Volunteers of all ages have participated in everything from camera work to catering.

Anna added: “The amazing thing is that we’ve not only made a feature film but we’ve had great fun, learned new skills and made lots of new friends.”

Blitz and Bananas premieres at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley.

With unprecedented demand meaning the 2.30pm screening is almost sold out, a second showing has been organised for 5.30pm.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16.
