Treating yourself to a fabulous meal out does not have to cost an arm and a leg – or even a little finger.

Belgo in Bromley invited News Shopper to dine at its branch in The Glades and prove indulging in tasty, expertly cooked dishes is accessible to people on the tightest of budgets.

Until September 29, the Belgian restaurant is offering a main course with a drink for just £10.

My hungry friend and I made our way down to the fantastically-situated eatery last Tuesday evening, where we picked a lovely table outside, looking out into the park.

The fantastic autumn deal allows you to pick from a list of mains including Belgo’s speciality of mussels, chargrilled chicken burgers and half a spit roast chicken.

As always, I cursed my pesky shellfish allergy whilst perusing the menu – but on this occasion it was even more frustrating than ever.

With kilo pots of the delicious moules to choose from, my eyes fell upon the Thai take on the little sea gems.

They come covered in lemongrass, chilli, ginger, Kaffir lime, coconut and coriander – life is so unfair sometimes.

Just to rub salt into the wound, my companion went for the traditional mussels with chips, and I settled for the chicken burger with avocado, baby gem, tomato and ginger and lime sauce.

To wash it all down, customers can choose from half a pint of Belgo Pils, a small glass of house wine or a draught soft drink.

Glass of Rose in hand, my friend was delighted with her mussel mountain – I was briefly intoxicated by the beautiful smell, but quickly snapped out of it when I saw my burger.

Complete with crispy, crunchy onion pieces on the side, the perfectly cooked chicken went magically with the creamy avocado.

And dipping my chips first into the gorgeous sauce and then into crispy onion bits was heavenly – these two sides were meant to be together.

The setting is really rather romantic, and staff know exactly how to make you feel special.

For just £10, the service, food and location are unbeatable.
