Welcome to the latest Entertainment Rant opinion column which questions why man-band Take That need egomaniac Robbie Williams back for good. Join the debate by adding your comments.

AFTER leaving boyband Take That with a wink and a few bitter words to say about his old pal Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams has decided to bury the hatchet and re-join the group which launched his now flagging career.

From 1991 to 1996, Take That dominated the charts with their infectious pop tunes and soulful ballads, sending teenage girls wild and selling more than 25 million records.

But the cracks began to show when rumours of a feud between cheeky chappie Robbie and slightly flabby lead singer Gary began to surface.

And so, Robbie decided he needed to show the world what real “talent” was and left to pursue a solo career.

Like a balloon being slowly inflated, Robbie's ego seemed to increase in direct proportion to his impressive chart success.

By the time he was stripping and ripping off his flesh in the video for Rock DJ, his bloated opinion of himself could be seen from space.

But as they say, pride comes before a fall and after a string of flop singles, even he had a headache from listening to Angels for the millionth time on Magic FM.

Around 200 aspirin later, he checked into rehab, hoping everyone would cry so much the world would be flooded with salty tears and the prime minister himself would be forced to beg for Robbie's return.

Unfortunately, publicly boasting about your millions and shoving your planet-sized ego in everyone's faces doesn't exactly engender sympathy and a misconceived comeback album recently failed to do anything but make people switch off the radio.

It's hardly a surprise, therefore, that Robbie has come back to Take That with his tail between his legs. But the question is, does the group really need him any more?

Since they returned in 2006, the foursome have won critical acclaim and a string of massive hits.

Apart from nostalgia, what will Robbie actually be contributing to the band? And exactly how long will it be before old wounds re-open?

If Robbie starts another fight, it could spell the end for the boys and Take That might be gone for good with no coming back.

The Mancunian singers are strong enough without the charmless Robbie Williams.

I suggest this time the boys keep a pin handy – you never know when Robbie's head might need popping back down to size again.
