THE infamous offshore pirate radio station, Radio Caroline, will be coming ashore and broadcasting live and loud from the British Music Experience at The O2.
Founded in 1964, Radio Caroline established itself in broadcasting and British history by defying the Government and other radio stations of the time.
Caroline became the backbone of the decade by playing the music her listeners wanted to hear – the music which defined a generation.
As part of London 60s Week, Radio Caroline will be based in the British Music Experience from next Monday to July 25, broadcasting daily from 11am to 7pm.
Playing 60s classics right through to current albums, the crew will also bring their Making Waves Exhibition to the Greenwich landmark's museum, which celebrates the rich cultural history of the UK music scene.
Celebrating the offshore revolutionaries and telling the story of the only offshore radio station still broadcasting today from a ship, Making Waves charts the history of Radio Caroline.
The owner of Radio Caroline Peter Moore said: “Radio Caroline is much changed from 1964 but still looks back to a time where freedom was breaking out, where life became colourful and where possibilities were endless.
"If you wanted to do something, why hell, you just went ahead and did it.
"In that spirit, we wanted to broadcast Radio Caroline from the British Music Experience, which charts the rise of British music to what it is today.”
