Welling's answer to Gwen Stefani will premiere tracks from her forthcoming album at a musical showcase at the Soho Revue Bar, London, next week News Shopper started following budding pop star Lucy Lawrence’s career back in 2006 when she left her job at The Bricklayers Arms, Bexleyheath and jetted off to the USA to work with producers including Noize Trip, a prolific duo signed to Will.I.Am’s self-titled record label, know for their collaborations and remixes with artists such as Pink and Macy Gray.
The well-connected producers recommended Lucy to Will.I.Am who, while touring with Black Eyed Peas in the UK, contacted the singer. The pair went on to record a duet for the Dirty Dancing 2 Havana Nights soundtrack and still stay in touch.
Having returned from her star-studded trip to the US – where she also met Justin Timberlake and uber-producer Timbaland – in 2007, Lucy started writing and composing in her home studio and with the backing of her mother Jacqueline McGuigan launched the production company, Pink Penny Productions.
This new material – including her signature track British Chick, an electro-driven urban pop gem bound to send discos crazy with its soulful vocals and rocky riffs – will be showcased at the Seb Collective concert at the Soho Revue Bar, London on Nov 10, where Lucy will perform with her band, the Apple Seeds, to guests including key music industry figures.
Lucy said: “I have had amazing support from people over the years but nothing beats getting support from friends and family from my home town.”
Interest in the up-and-coming singer is already gearing up and Pink Penny Productions are in talks with the BBC about a making-of documentary when Lucy films a music video for British Chick and a high-street cosmetics brand regarding a range inspired by Lucy’s British Chick image.
An album is scheduled for release in February next year but, Jacqueline says with interest at its current level, it is likely we will see and hear something much sooner.
Lucy Lawrence live at the Seb Collective@ Soho Revue Bar, 11 Walkers Court, London. Nov 10.
