Tracks by a five-piece, unsigned band from Bexleyheath have been included on the new Pro Evolution Soccer computer game soundtrack.

Monday Street are one of two unsigned bands to have their music - Echoes and Straighten Out - used on the football game and were chosen from thousands of music acts by the manufacturer, Konami.

The band’s manager, Oliver Wilkinson said Monday Street are on the verge of being signed – he’s been looking over record company offers – and it feels great to be making headway in the industry.

“It all seems to be happening now,” he said.

EMI’s vice president, Kenny McGough - who signed Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and The Makers, Bloc Party and Feeder – assisted Monday Street with the recordings for the game and was so impressed with guitarist Jack Tarrent, he has been asked to work full-time in their West End studios with the label’s established acts.

So far he has worked with Duffy, Ian Brown and Kylie.

“He loves it,” said Oliver. “But he’s very grounded and not too affected. Not bad for someone who’s18 years old.”

Konami discovered Monday Street – also comprising 18-year-olds Harry Wade, Chris Peto, Daniel Pittman and Ale Olivares, all from Bexleyheath and Sidcup - after they were recommended by Anton Brookes, of PR firm Bad Moon (which has Arctic Monkeys on the books) when the games company contacted him looking for fresh talent.

The Konami office in Japan is so taken with the boys, says Oliver, they’ve used their tracks on their website homepage too.

Monday Street live, supporting Helsinki, at The Drayman, Bexleyheath on Nov 7.
