A harbour town known for being one of the warmest places in the UK with a top rated Wetherspoons is just a 90-minute drive from south east London - the perfect place to visit this summer.
Ramsgate is a harbour town located on the Kent coast with travel links by train from London Bridge and Bromley South.
Ramsgate is famously known for having one of the “warmest climates” in the UK according to Visit Ramsgate, offering warm temperatures for visitors looking to soak up a bit of sun.
The town has been home to many famous figures over the years, with plenty of blue plaques to find around the town.
Some of the famous people who have lived there include names like artist Vincent Van Gogh and science fiction writer Mary Shelley.
One of Ramsgate’s prime examples of Victorian architecture is the Italianate Glasshouse and Gardens, a Grade II* listed glasshouse dating back to the 19th century where you can enjoy lunch or even afternoon tea surrounded by plants and flowers.
Visitors interested in wartime history can explore Ramsgate Tunnels, famously known as being the UK’s largest network of civilian wartime tunnels serving as a shelter for 60,000 people.
During a tour you’ll see highlights like Britain’s largest purpose-built Second World War Deep Tunnel Shelter, and a former mainline Victorian Railway Tunnel.
The town also features three museums to explore including The Micro Museum, where for £5 you can explore a collection of vintage computers and retro games with some that you can play for some nostalgia.
Anyone with an interest in wartime aircrafts can stop by the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum located on one of the last remaining airfields involved in the Battle of Britain.
Here you’ll find a collection of aircraft objects along with displays of some of the most famous spitfires that dominated the skies during World War II, including the Spitfire Mk XVI and Hurricane Mk II.
You can also experience what it would have been like to fly a Spitfire in the museum's Fly On Simulator.
Science enthusiasts can also explore This Museum is (Not) Obsolete, home to a collection of obsolete scientific and musical technology to browse.
Visitors looking to find a Wetherspoons can visit The Royal Victoria Pavilion, which was recently named second place in the list of the top 10 Wetherspoons in the UK, according to the percentage of 5-star reviews the business received.
With rooftop seating and sea views, this Wetherspoons is a popular spot to relax after a walk around the town without breaking the bank.
If you fancy some shopping, Ramsgate is home to Petticoat Lane Emporium, famously known as Kent’s largest indoor marketplace with 200 traders, featuring everything from antiques to clothing to browse.
Ramsgate is the UK’s only Royal Harbour, after being awarded the status following a visit from King George IV.
If you fancy taking a tour of the harbour and getting further out to explore the coastline, you can take a ride onboard a Go2sea Boat Trip, with a number of trips to choose from including a Seal Trip to Pegwell Bay for just £30.
The town also has the Main Sands beach, and is within a short distance of the neighbouring town of Broadstairs which is home to Blue Flag beaches Joss Bay and Botany Bay.
