Bexley Council has addressed concerns about nesting swans in Danson Park as preparations for a dinosaur-themed event get underway.

Dinosaurs in the Park is set to take place in Danson Park from May 18 to June 9 and is a walk-through experience which will display creatures from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods.

A spokesperson for Bexley Council said that they are working in collaboration with the organisers of Dinosaurs in the Park, taking all necessary measures to secure the protection of the swans and their nest.

The spokesperson outlined several steps being taken, which include fencing off the auditorium and other areas linked to the event, and the installation of additional screens to minimise noise.

All speakers are directed away from the nest, and the positioning of the dinosaurs has also been altered.

The spokesperson further detailed that the event's entrance is being relocated to be a further distance from the nest.

The nest itself is roughly 18 metres from the closest event fence, separated by a treeline and a pedestrian footpath.

Bexley Council described the swan's nesting location as next to “one of the busiest pathways in the park, constantly busy with walkers, families and runners.”

The event itself involves dinosaur-themed attractions, including 40 life-size, animatronic models of Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous period creatures.

The event will also cater to a range of sensory preferences with quieter sessions on offer and promises educational fun as each model comes with interesting dinosaur facts.

For interested park-goers, tickets are still available for purchase starting at £7.20 per person, plus a 20 per cent discount for tickets booked anytime after 3pm.

Dinosaurs in the Park will be closed on May 20, 21, 22 and June 3, 4, 5.

A spokesperson for Bexley Council said: “The London Borough of Bexley is working with the ‘Dinosaurs in the Park’ event organisers to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to protect the nesting swans in Danson Park.

“The auditorium – and any other items connected with the event - will be fenced off and hoarded.

“Additional screening is being erected to aid with sound reduction and all speakers will be faced away from the nest.

“We are also relocating the event entrance further away and moving the position of some of the dinosaurs.

“The nest is about 18 metres away from the nearest fence line of the event, with a treeline and pedestrian footpath also in between."
