More help with instruction in British Sign Language (BSL) should be provided for families with deaf relatives particularly children so they are better able to communicate with them.
This instruction should not be limited to families, however, as many others will also need to be able to communicate with these deaf children so they can feel more integrated and enjoy a better lifestyle.
This custom is firmly established at Slade Green Infant School where not only are the children in the communications unit taught BSL but where basic sign language is also shown to all of the children and staff, which they are encouraged to use at every opportunity.
As a special treat, I would suggest families visit the Rose Gallery at Bluewater where the school's singing choir will be performing some special Christmas songs at 11am on December 7.
No matter how young or old you are, I can guarantee this is an event not to be missed which will leave everybody feeling a little bit warmer for the festive season.
I look forward to seeing you all there.
Mr M J Barker Chairman of Governors Slade Green Infant School
