ALAN Pardew is hoping Stoke City counterpart Tony Pulis will take on Amdy Faye after the midfielder linked up with Stoke last week.
Faye is one of the top earners in SE7 and the Addicks boss knows his departure will free up some much-needed funds to boost his own recruitment drive.
Pulis agreed to have a look at Faye with the option of offering something more concrete depending on how he does during his stay at the Britannia.
Faye played 22 minutes of Stoke's 2-2 friendly draw against Osasuna on Friday and Pards will have his fingers crossed Faye will make a strong impression during his trial in the Potteries.
The Addicks boss said: "He is there on a viewing. I think they play Monday and Tony will have to make a decision before Saturday.
"We aren't going to give it too long because his reputation speaks for itself really.
"He has been a top player in the Premiership and Tony is taking a bit of a cheek by having him on trial, but I just felt it was best for the lad especially when he came on last week and got booed by the crowd against Bilbao.
"I think it is difficult for him here now, so a move would be good for him.
"If he does come back to us, we are going to have to try and build bridges with everybody here and get him playing to his best because he is a good player."
Despite Faye's problems at The Valley since his £2m arrival from Newcastle in 2006, Pardew is confident the player will be able to put his two-year nightmare behind him and is urging Pulis to give him a chance.
He said: "Sometimes you have to take for granted he can do the job. It is just about the character and how they are around the group.
"Tony Pulis needs to make sure he is a good character, which he is and that is why I've let him go.
"When Tony sees him, he will see he is a proper fellow who just wants to get back playing.
"Amdy has had a tricky couple of years and wants to get his career back on track.
"He isn't a bad person. Sometimes you lose your way in the game and he needs to find himself and a new start will do that."
