KENNY Jackett is still waiting to hear if Chris Wood will remain at The Den after his loan spell ends.
Wood is already in double figures for goals this season and recent performances have reportedly attracted the attention of several Championship rivals.
The New Zealand international has been prolific since arriving on loan in September but is set to return to West Brom next month when that deal ends.
Jackett has already made no secret of his desire to bring the striker back to The Den on a permanent basis but added there have been no fresh developments as Lions fans anxiously wait to discover whether Wood will stay or go.
“There is nothing new to report,” the Millwall manager revealed.
“We really like Chris and we have shown that we want him.
“Where he goes next is much talked about but we will find out over the next few weeks if it could be us.”
The 21-year-old has already had five seperate loan spells in his career after failing to make an impact at the Hawthorns but his long-term future should be sealed next month.
Jackett is hopeful the striker has enjoyed his time at The Den enough to sign on permanently and continue to improve with Millwall.
“I know he really likes it here,” the Lions boss said.
“It has been a really good spell for him this season, but who knows?
“You hear about this club, that club, whoever, but obviously they phone West Brom and not us so it is difficult.
“I read the same things you do in the papers, but we will have to wait and see what happens.”
With clubs such as Brighton, Huddersfield and Leicester linked with the in-form hitman, Millwall may struggle to compete financially for his signature in January.
Jackett clearly has an eye for a goalscorer after bringing in the likes of Harry Kane, Steve Morison and Wood to the club in recent years.
However, the Lions boss has admitted replacing Wood will be an extremely tough task if he doesn’t sign permanently.
Jackett said: “We are always looking at players, that is part of the job.
“We want Chris to stay and right now we haven’t closely looked at any other immediate options.
“Getting a player who can score goals in the Championship is a very, very difficult thing to find.
“If Chris doesn’t sign then we will look elsewhere in the new year.
“We’ll see, but it isn’t all about Wood as the whole squad has played really well this season.”
