Charlton secured hugely important back-to-back wins after beating Portsmouth on Saturday.
The Addicks have overcome promotion rivals Pompey and Shrewsbury in the space of a week to leave them fifth with two games to go.
Here are five things we learned…
The Magennis-Ajose partnership is back
Josh Magennis and Nicky Ajose started together for the first time since December 31, 2016 - and they were fantastic. Their movement and work-rate caused Portsmouth’s defence problems for the entire afternoon.
Magennis provided the assist for Ajose’s winner. They showed signs of what they could do in a poor team managed by Russell Slade. And now, under Lee Bowyer’s guidance, they can help fire the Addicks to promotion.
Charlton had their best away support of the season
It was the Addicks’ biggest away following of the 2017/18 campaign (2,448) surpassing the 2,358 supporters that travelled to Gillingham in September.
And they never stopped singing to drown out Portsmouth’s renowned home support.
Charlton fans helped their team over the line in the 2-1 win over MK Dons in February, and they did the same when Pompey piled on the pressure in the dying minutes.
That incredible support needs to be matched for the rest of the season.
Tariqe Fosu’s injury is a major blow
One negative from Saturday was the injury to Fosu. The winger was forced off in the 56th minute after pulling his hamstring.
It could rule him out for the Blackburn and Rochdale games - he’ll be a massive miss.
Charlton always play better when Fosu’s in the team. Mark Marshall, Sullay Kaikai or Stephy Mavididi are the likely candidates to replace him.
Charlton are showing a lot of bottle
The Addicks would've drawn or lost this game two months ago.
Charlton defended valiantly at Fratton Park as Portsmouth struggled to break them down.
And on the rare occasion they did, Ben Amos was there to preserve his clean sheet.
Charlton looked so dangerous going forward, while at the same time staying solid at the back - the perfect combination.
Lee Bowyer is very, very confident
In his post-match press conference, Bowyer said no team will beat Charlton over two legs in the play-off semi-finals.
He has an incredible amount of trust and belief in his players - and that must leave a positive effect on the pitch.
The two wins over Shrewsbury and Portsmouth show this team has a very strong chance of returning to the Championship via the play-offs.
