Charlton’s nine-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt end after losing 1-0 to Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Curtis Main’s 19th-minute goal was enough to see off an Addicks side, who have already qualified for the next stage of the competition.
Here is how News Shopper rated Charlton’s players…
Dillon Phillips - 6 - Caught everything that came his way, couldn’t do a lot about Pompey’s opener.
Anfernee Dijksteel - 8 - Another impressive showing at right-back. The versatile defender is enhancing his reputation with every game he plays. Man of the match.
Patrick Bauer - 6 - Captain for the night. Dominant in the air. Portsmouth’s well-worked goal gave his defence no chance.
Naby Sarr - 7 - Sloppy in possession but made some important tackles to stop the visitors from extending their lead.
Jamie Mascoll - 6 - He was caught out a couple of times and struggled to get forward as much as he did against Fulham Under-21s last Wednesday.
Ahmed Kashi - 8 - Broke up Portsmouth attacks and dictated the play.
Joe Aribo - 7 - Very powerful on the ball and always tried to look for the forward pass.
Tariqe Fosu - N/A - Subbed off in the ninth minute with an injury. Hopefully it’s not too serious.
Billy Clarke - 6 - Tried to make things happen but failed to link-up with Dodoo.
Karlan Ahearne-Grant - 5 - A night to forget for the winger, who struggled to make an impact. Lost the ball too many times. Should’ve scored in the first minute of the game.
Joe Dodoo - 5 - He was subbed off in the 59th minute after barely threatening Portsmouth’s defence.
Subs:
Ben Reeves - 7
Reeco Hackett-Fairchild - 5
Ricky Holmes - 7
