ADDICKS boss Chris Powell says it is premature to speculate if Hogan Ephiram will extend his initial stay in SE7 beyond January 3.
The winger completed a loan switch from QPR until the new year earlier this week after falling down the pecking order at Loftus Road.
Powell confirmed there is no pressure from opposite number Neil Warnock to ensure the Hoops player gets regular game time with the Addicks and explained it is now down to Ephiram to show what he can do.
When asked if the new signing will remain at the club beyond the initial deal, Powell replied: “It is too early, we’ve got to look at him settling in and see if he plays his part in the six weeks.
“It is a long time with a few games so no, we can’t look beyond that because we don’t know what he is thinking and what QPR are thinking.
“He comes in, we want him to contribute and be part of our team ethic and what we’ve been doing this year and then we take it from there.
“There is a lot of football and a lot of time yet before we go down that road.
“Neil Warnock has just said he comes to you and you do whatever you want to do with him.
“The team has been doing exceptionally well so it is hard for him just to walk in because the form the players have been in, the goals we’ve been scoring, the wins we’ve got in the league and the cup win as well, we’ve been going well.
“They’ve set themselves a standard and Hogan comes into that.
“He needs to buy into that.
“I’ve spoken to him and he is fully aware of where we are at and he doesn’t expect anything, he just wants to impress everyone and try and get involved.
“There is no ruling where QPR say he has to play, they’ve been very fair to us and obviously very fair to him by letting him come out and be part of a team which is going OK at the moment.”
But Ephiram could be set to feature in some role at Brentford on Saturday.
“I hope so, he has had some training with us now,” said Powell.
“He hasn’t played too many games this year and we are well into the groove now with 17 league games gone and a few in the cup.
“Hogan has trained well, fitted in well and we’ve seen lots of quality from him, because that is what I know of him, so we will see.
“I will choose a squad tomorrow.
“Now he is our player for the next six weeks I hope he is in contention for all of the games.
“ He was a vital part of QPR last year and played his part in them being promoted to the Premier League.
“Sadly for him with the rules and the squad of 25 he hasn’t made it.
“I’m pleased he has come.
“My assistant manager Alex Dyer has had him as a player when he was the reserve team manager at West Ham before he moved on and he knows one or two of the players here.
“He gives us a different option on the left.
“That is one area if you look at my side really Cedric Evina I see as a left-back, he wants to pin down a position and he is a left-back alongside Rhoys, but I don’t really have another left sider.
“He is primarily right-footed, he is one of those players in the mould of Jerome Thomas and John Robinson, who are right footers but they prefer to be on the left.”
