JOHNNIE Jackson's 80th minute penalty preserved Charlton's unbeaten record as the Addicks came from behind to draw with Tranmere.
Manager Chris Powell made two changes to the starting XI which won 2-0 at Sheffield United last week.
Yann Kermorgant, who scored in that game, got the nod ahead of Paul Hayes to partner Bradley Wright-Phillips up front, while Danny Green was preferred over Scott Wagstaff.
Both Wagstaff and Hayes were named on the bench, as were John Sullivan, Cedric Evina and Gary Doherty.
Lucas Akins had the first chance of the game for Tranmere inside 30 seconds, but his 25 yard shot was never going to trouble Ben Hamer in the Addicks goal.
Joss Labadie also tried his luck from long range two minutes later but again Hamer was not in any real danger.
Rovers keeper Owain Fon Williams made a complete hash of Ian Goodison's back pass by needlessly scuffing his clearance out for a throw in.
Everton loanee Jose Baxter saw his 10th minute shot blocked by Matt Taylor, while Dale Stephens placed a 13th minute effort wildly over the bar, an attempt which might have been more use for the England rugby team earlier on today.
Baxter placed a curling 18th minute shot from just outside of the box straight at Hamer.
Taylor made a crucial header to prevent Enoch Showumni connecting with a dangerous cross from Dave Raven on the half hour and Goodison headed over from the resulting Labadie corner.
But Tranmere's attacking ambition was finally rewarded in the 33rd minute when Adam McGurk's shot from edge of the area took a slight deflection off Chris Solly and flew past Hamer.
Johnnie Jackson's low drive a minute before the interval was well wide of the target, an effort which summed up a frustrating first half for the Addicks who found themselves in the unusual position of trailing at the midway point.
Charlton were only inches away from getting back on terms six minutes after the restart when Ash Taylor deflected the ball behind after it came to him from one of his own team-mates.
Matt Taylor's long range effort one minute later was gathered by Fon Williams at the second attempt, while Green's pass released Wright-Phillips, whose low shot was saved by the keeper.
But Tranmere continued to look a threat and Michael Morrison made a vital headed clearance from McGurk's delivery at the expense of a corner to deny Showumni.
Danny Hollands tried his luck from 25 yards on the hour but the shot went wide, while McGurk saw a rasping long range shot go just over the bar as the game remained end-to-end.
The first change arrived on 69 minutes as Wagstaff came on for Green.
Charlton were handed a lifeline on 77 minutes when they were awarded a penalty following a challenge on Kermorgant in the boox by Goodison as they wanted for Jackson's corner to arrive.
And it was Jackson who ignored the delays caused by protesting Rovers players to finally smash home the spot kick three minutes later and make it 1-1.
Jackson volleyed just over from close range in the 82nd minute, while Wright-Phillips just made to make a decent connection when the ball landed into his path three minutes from time.
And Charlton went close again to snatching a winner deep into stoppage time as Kermorgant's 30-yard free-kick flew just over the bar.
