DARREN Bent doubled his tally of England caps at Old Trafford seven days ago, coming off the bench for the final 14 minutes of the 4-0 victory against Greece. Luke Young wasn't involved but on the same night Dennis Rommedahl scored for Denmark in a 2-0 win against Poland and Djimi Traore's Mali beat Tunisia 1-0 in France. The previous night Bulgarian midfielder Radostin Kishishev helped his country to a 0-0 draw against Wales, Hermann Hreidarsson featured as Iceland held Spain to a 0-0 draw and Scott Carson and Darren Ambrose were both involved in England under-21s' 2-2 European Championship qualification draw against Moldova.
LOAN duo Simon Walton and Darren Randolph both made their debuts for Ipswich Town and Gillingham on Saturday following one-month switches the day before but neither tasted victory. Walton played in central midfield as Ipswich drew 0-0 with Hull City while the Gills were beaten 1-0 by Northampton Town.
Elsewhere, defender Jani Tanska last week joined Norwegian club Lyn Oslo on loan for the rest of the year.
AN EXTRAORDINARY General Meeting (EGM) of Charlton plc will take place at 11am on September 6 to approve the company's withdrawal from the Alternative Investment Market (AIM). Chairman Richard Murray insisted the decision would not result in any change in the current ownership of the club.
