CHARLTON’S promotion hopes have been dealt a blow after it was revealed Grant Basey is out for the rest of the season.
The defender sustained an ankle injury in the opening seconds of last Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers and was told the news he will not kick a ball again this campaign after seeing a specialist on Tuesday.
Manager Phil Parkinson said: “Grant Basey will have an operation tomorrow and is out for the season.
“He has completely ruptured his ligaments. The specialist said he wanted to have a look before giving an accurate assessment of when he would be back.
“We’ve got Johnnie Jackson in for 28 days and we are just waiting on Kelly Youga as well to see where he is.
“He is progressing slowly still, so it is probably something we need to sit down and discuss again.”
The Addicks will also be without striker Deon Burton for tomorrow evening’s clash at Southend after he was forced off in the first half against Brighton on Tuesday.
Parkinson added: “Deon is struggling with his groin and looks like he is going to be out.
“We don’t know how long he is going to be out for but I don’t think it is a long term thing, but it looks like he isn’t going to make Friday.”
