Millwall 1-2 Huddersfield Town
By Peter Smith
WILLIE Donachie was left frustrated as his Millwall side slumped to defeat at home to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
The Lions manager felt his side had done more than enough to win the game having created several good openings early on and restricting the visitors to just one effort in the second half - Malvin Kamara's winner on 52 minutes.
He said: "It's very hard to take. In the first half I thought we were very good, as good as we've been.
"I thought we were by far the better team in all areas.
"The lads played really well with a good tempo and good energy and deserved to be winning, but there were two vital errors in the game."
Lions keeper Chris Day was beaten to a long ball for Town's first and conceded at his near post for the second.
Speaking on Kamara's winner, Donachie added: "I thought it was terrible defending, and getting beaten at the near post is a cardinal sin for a goalkeeper.
"That's an area he should have covered."
The impressive Kamara received the ball on the edge of the Millwall penalty box, dribbled past two defenders before clipping the winner right-footed past Day.
Millwall had a host of good chances in the first half and could have gone ahead after just two minutes when Neil Harris found Danny Spiller in the Terriers' box, but the midfielder's effort was saved superbly by Matthew Glennon.
Just minutes later, a Ryan Smith cross from the right was just out of the reach of the oncoming Gary Alexander.
Huddersfield's first threatening move came on 18 minutes when the lightning quick Kamara burst down the right flank and fired in a cross, which centre-back Richard Shaw tried to control on his chest.
However, he only managed to tee-up Andy Booth who saw his low strike saved by the feet of Day.
Both teams created a number of half-chances, the best falling to Alexander who headed a pin-point cross from Andy Frampton wide after Alan Dunne had the ball in the net, only to see the linesman's flag raised for offside.
The breakthrough came for the home side courtesy of skipper Paul Robinson, who leapt above his marker at the back post to head Danny Senda's cross past Glennon on 41 minutes.
However, the jubilation was short-lived as a long hopeful ball from Huddersfield's new signing Richard Keogh was misjudged by Day.
He was beaten to it by Andy Booth, who nodded a looping effort over the keeper and into the unguarded goal.
Millwall started brightly in the second half with the jinking Smith going past three defenders before running the ball out of play.
But just seven minutes after the restart, the Lions were behind.
The home side dominated possession as they went in search of an equaliser and were camped in Huddersfield's half.
However, they could create little more than several half-chances for Harris, Dave Brammer and loan signing Jay Simpson.
