Charlton missed the chance to move into the top six after losing to Oxford United.
The U’s twice came from behind to earn an unlikely win with two late goals.
Here are five things we learned…
Josh Magennis gets his goal
Magennis was swarmed by his team-mates after ending his 14-game goal drought. They knew how much it meant to him.
The Northern Ireland striker has not been rested this season and it’s affected his form.
But Charlton’s unexpected two-week break paid dividends for Magennis, who starred for the Addicks against Oxford.
With more competition up front and the confidence boost from scoring, this could be the start of a purple patch for Charlton’s number nine.
New loan signings will need time to get up to speed
Sullay Kaikai and Michal Zyro were exciting additions to Charlton’s squad in the January transfer window.
Kaikai is a proven goalscorer at League One level, while Zyro impressed for Wolves in the Championship before suffering a serious injury.
Both players made their Addicks debuts with 20 minutes to go and failed to affect the game, something Karl Robinson admitted.
It’s worth noting that Kaikai and Zyro have played a combined total of six games this season. So a bit of patience might be required before they start firing.
It’s time for a fit-again Patrick Bauer to start
Bauer has endured an injury-plagued two months, but was fit enough for the bench against Oxford.
Robinson didn't play the defender due to the form of his back-four, which kept three clean sheets in five league games prior to the defeat.
The centre-back pairing of Harry Lennon and Ezri Konsa has been solid in recent weeks.
However, Lennon only returned from a 13-month injury lay-off in December, and has started the last five games, so it might be a good idea to rest him for the trip to Doncaster this weekend.
He has a more than capable replacement in Bauer.
Play-offs still look very achievable despite the Oxford setback
Promotion hopefuls Portsmouth, Bradford and Peterborough dropped points on Saturday.
The Addicks are two points away from sixth-placed Bradford with two games in hand.
The Bantams, who have lost their last six games, make the trip to the Valley on February 17.
With the arrivals of Stephy Mavididi, Zyro and Kaikai, plus the return of Nicky Ajose, Charlton have the depth in attack that fans have been crying out for since the summer. It will only aid the Addicks’ promotion push.
Tariqe Fosu is outstanding… but must know when to release the ball
In his post-match interview, Robinson bemoaned Charlton’s offensive players for being too selfish.
And Fosu must’ve been one of the attackers he was talking about. There were moments when the winger ignored his team-mates and chose to shoot or carry the ball further.
It clearly angered Robinson on the touchline.
Fosu was actually Charlton’s best attacking player on the day and looked very dangerous in the number 10 role. However, he needs to be a little less greedy with the ball.
