Tariqe Fosu’s hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Fleetwood moved Charlton into the play-off places.
Fosu’s opener was cancelled out by Bobby Grant before half-time. But two more second-half goals from the winger ended the contest.
The result saw Karl Robinson’s men end a four-game winless run.
Here are five things we learned…
Naby Sarr steps up
With injuries to Jason Pearce and Chris Solly, the latter’s one being less serious, Sarr was called upon for his first Charlton league start since January 2016.
And he was outstanding.
The French defender was dominant in the air and read the game so well. His excellent distribution helped Robinson’s side with their style of play.
He has done enough to keep his place for the Doncaster clash on October 14.
Fosu is magic
With the arrivals of Billy Clarke, Mark Marshall and Ben Reeves, Fosu was brought in to be a squad player - Robinson even admitted that.
But in the absence of Marshall and Reeves, he has proven his worth to this Charlton team in a short space of time. He didn't get a look in at Reading, who will regret their decision to let him go.
A first career hat-trick - the perfect treble after scoring with his left foot, right foot and head - was well deserved. For a 21-year-old, he showed great composure to put away his second and third goals.
Fosu's five goals make him the Addicks’ top scorer heading into the international break.
Charlton can go on a winning run now
The Addicks have already beaten Northampton, Rotherham, Oldham and Southend in successive games this season.
They face Doncaster, promotion-chasing Oxford and Bradford and struggling AFC Wimbledon in the upcoming weeks.
The trip to Bradford will be tough, but Charlton should aim to take 10 points from a possible 12.
Positive results against those four clubs could see the Addicks close the five-point gap to the top two.
Ben Reeves and Mark Marshall are up and running
One of the many positives from the Fleetwood win saw Reeves and Marshall make their league debuts for the Addicks.
A knee injury sustained in pre-season meant Marshall’s Charlton bow was delayed, while Reeves was not fit enough after being without a club for the summer.
But it was great to finally see the pair in action for the Addicks.
They are set to play in an Under-23s game on Tuesday to build-up their fitness.
Charlton have lacked depth in attacking positions this season - but Reeves and Marshall will add some serious firepower to the squad.
The style of football is so entertaining
Charlton are creating chances for fun - and it's down to their quick, aggressive play.
Every time the Addicks broke on the counter against Fleetwood, they looked like scoring.
The interplay among the attacking trio of Fosu, Clarke and Ricky Holmes is frightening at times. And with the passing prowess of Jake Forster-Caskey and Ahmed Kashi, it enables the Addicks to play an attractive brand of football.
It's an expansive style which means goals will be conceded. But Robinson's mantra has always been to outscore the other team.
