This summer has been a busy one with Charlton signing seven players. We’ve brought in Billy Clarke, Mark Marshall, Tariqe Fosu, Jay Dasilva, Ben Amos, Ben Reeves and Joe Dodoo.
Karl Robinson has signed the type of players who will suit his 4-2-3-1 formation, something he didn't have last season. He’s got fast, tricky wingers at his disposal coupled with attacking, ball playing midfielders with an eye for goal.
We didn't bring in that proven goalscorer, but overall, it’s been a good transfer window for the club.
Billy Clarke
What a player Clarke has been since joining the Addicks. Being known as a striker but with a low goal scoring record some Charlton fans picked up on this and could be seen as negative but this player is beyond belief.
He plays in the number 10 role and has been lovely to watch and he has been involved in some of the best football I have seen at the Valley in recent years. This I believe has been an undervalued signing which I can see paying dividends for Charlton.
Mark Marshall
Marshall's unfortunate injury is a blow as his skills and trickery would have been useful. He could have made some of the games we’ve played in even more comfortable.
Tariqe Fosu
Fosu has been pleasurable to watch with the winger happy to take players on and make them look like scarecrows in a field of cows. He still has a lot to learn but since the start of the season, he has shown what a very good player he can be.
Jay Dasilva
We all know his quality, and bringing him back to the club to give us that speed and make sure that Chris Solly doesn’t feel so small with the big centre-halves was a no-brainer to everyone at the club. He has a big future and it's great for us to be part of his development.
Ben Amos
He has the size and stature of a decent goalkeeper but he is prone to some scary moments in the box which he really needs to work on. Having said that, he was very good against Rotherham last weekend, claiming and catching every cross that came his way. Hopefully we’ll see more of that this season.
Charlton haven’t signed a goalkeeper on a permanent deal for years with young upcoming keepers in our ranks that need just a little bit more time before making the step up, this can be understandable and loans will have to do for now.
Ben Reeves
At one point, it looked like signing Reeves wasn't going to happen. With a lack of pre-season due to his desire to keep his options open, it’s hampered his start with the club. But everyone knows the quality this player can bring to the team and I can see him getting us some important goals and assists this season.
Joe Dodoo
Our deadline day recruit comes in the form of ex-Leicester starlet and Rangers youngster - Dodoo - not much is known about this young man but with Robinson’s previous experience in signing Stephy Mavididi, the forward could be another exciting new arrival.
Charlton fans seemed disappointed with his scoring record, but he was playing on the wing for Leicester and Rangers. Robinson plans to play him as a number nine, and that’s the position where he could find his goalscoring touch.
So, who is the most important addition to the Charlton squad this season?
He’s not a new signing but a big addition to us is Ahmed Kashi. Yes - the hard tackling Algerian has come back like he was never away, reminding us how good he is. Kashi is building a great relationship with Jake Forster-Caskey in the middle of the park and he will win us more games with the defending prowess that we need to be successful this year.
