Ademola Lookman wants to have a productive season at Charlton, according to Addicks manager Russell Slade.

The 18-year-old is the subject of intense speculation this summer after enjoying a breakthrough season at the Valley.

Lookman only made his first-team debut last November, but his performances for the relegated Addicks attracted attention from several top-flight clubs.

Scouts from Arsenal even tracked Lookman while he was on England U19 duty as the young Three Lions reached the semi-finals of the European Championships.

Lookman returned to SE7 on Monday and when News Shopper asked Slade whether he had spoken to the forward about his future, the boss said: “Look, you speak to Ade – he’s looking forward to the season and he wants a good, strong season at Charlton Athletic.

“He had a very light session with us yesterday.

“We didn’t want to give him too many minutes [against Ipswich Town] because as you know he’s had a lot of football over the summer.

“He’s been away on those England camps so we need to be wary and aware of that.”

Lookman, who made 24 appearances for Charlton last season, played the final 20 minutes of the pre-season stalemate with Ipswich on Tuesday evening.

The South Londoners kept the Championship club at bay – although the Tractor Boys wasted several golden opportunities to win the game.

Reflecting on the goalless draw, Slade said: “We looked quite resilient, there were a few moments in the first-half where we weren’t so clever defensively.

“But all in all I thought we held our own in that first-half without creating too much going forward.

“We threw on a lot of young players as well and it was nice to see Lookman getting some minutes on the pitch – from that point of view it was quite positive.

“It gave me another angle and another look at some of the young players, which is important.”
