Charlton would leave the Valley if a potential investor bought the club, according to chief executive Katrien Meire.
Peter Varney, the former Addicks chief executive, approached owner Roland Duchatelet last year to discuss a potential buy-out.
While Varney, who now works at Ebbsfleet United, had no interest in returning to SE7, he had contacts willing to buy Charlton.
However, the Charlton board were unwilling to consider any offer and have subsequently emphasised that the club is not for sale.
Meire admits the board have been approached by interested buyers, but said a proposal would see Charlton move away from the Valley.
When asked about Duchatelet’s position on selling, Meire said: “As we said in the past the club is not for sale.
“He [Roland] had several approaches from alleged buyers before, including the one from Mr Varney.
“But a proposal like that includes a move away from the Valley and Roland Duchatelet knows how important it is for fans that Charlton plays at the Valley.”
