RESIDENTS must be vigilant after a wave of thefts of lead from roofs.
Lewisham police are warning Downham residents to be on the lookout after a spate of reports concerning the thefts.
Sergeant Andy Gill from the Downham Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Over recent weeks we have had several reports of youths stealing lead from the roofs in the area.
"The team has recently recovered around 1 ton of lead from an address in Downham."
A 14-year-old youth from Downham has been arrested on suspicion of theft in relation to one of the incidents and has been bailed to return to a south London police station on March 18.
