A MULTINATIONAL company hoping to build a yellow-bricked warehouse on a "prime" residential site is set to have its seventh application rejected.
Planning bosses look likely to confirm it will be unlucky seven for The Big Yellow Self Storage Company, which wants to build a warehouse in Baring Road, Lee.
Now campaigners who have fought to keep the building away from the area are urging Big Yellow to "pack its bags and go".
Since 2001 the firm has had six applications rejected, to build a trademark yellow-bricked warehouse on the site.
It hoped to make it seventh time lucky with its proposal, which would see the warehouse hidden' by 32 flats.
But a Lewisham Council planning committee is recommending the application be rejected because the building would be "out of character" with the rest of the area.
Grove Park ward councillor Barrie Anderson said: "I'm delighted but I saw no other decision they could have made.
"This is absolutely no place for a storage facility. Not now or ever."
The Conservative group leader added: "It is time for Big Yellow to pack its bags and go."
In its report the planning committee says the warehouse would have an "unacceptable" impact on views from adjoining gardens.
The report adds: "The design of the proposed development would be out of character with the surrounding area and is of insufficiently high design quality for this prominent site."
Residents who have led a five-year fight to keep Big Yellow away have welcomed the committee's stance.
Bob Walker, of Exford Road, Grove Park, said: "This is a prime site. It is the first thing people see when they drive into Lewisham on the South Circular.
"Having a great big yellow thing right in the middle of housingis not acceptable."
Campaigner Jon Fox is also urging fellow campaigners to show their solidarity by attending the planning meeting.
The report will be discussed at a planning committee meeting tomorrow, from 7.30pm, at Lewisham Town Hall.
