A man is aghast after he parked his motorbike outside Bromley police station – only to find it gone less than two hours later.
Shane Stainsby, 58, left his red 600cc Honda CBR parked in Waitrose carpark, in Masons Hill, last Thursday (September 10) at 10.30am.
He returned just an hour and a half later to find the bike – which he bought only a few weeks ago for £6,000 – gone.
After discovering it was missing, he walked into the station to report it.
He is now offering a £500 reward for its return.
MORE TOP STORIES Mr Stainsby, from Kynaston Road in Downham, said: “They had the bottle to steal my bike from outside the police station.
“There was a chain on the front wheel, there’s not normally a place to lock up a bike so I put the chain on.
“It had an alarm on it so the alarm should have been going off.
“The police said they were surprised they didn’t get a report of someone putting it in a van or something. I don’t know how they stole it.
“It was a beautiful sunny day in the Waitrose carpark, the last thing I was thinking about was someone stealing my bike.”
Mr Stainsby hired the motorbike for the August bank holiday, and was so taken with it he bought it.
He told News Shopper: “I used to ride when I was 18 to 22, then I gave it up.
“I split from my wife so I’m having a mid-life crisis, so I bought the bike.”
He’s now been left with no mode of transportation.
The stolen bike
The architect added he was frustrated with the police’s response to the theft, criticising the time it took to be seen.
The father-of-three added: “I was outside for about five minutes before they opened the door – I could have been reporting a murder.
“They didn’t do anything about it that day, but they did send someone round my house yesterday.”
A spokesman for the Met Police confirmed they were investigating the theft of a motorbike after the victim reported it at the station.
No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
